Module 4 Blog Posting

Second Life is considered as a 3D virtual world.  This is considered as a disruptive technology because it has readily taken the place of an already available technology tool or device.
The technology device or innovation that Second Life replaced is the use of basic chatting such as in Yahoo Chat, it has replaced socialization websites, such as Facebook or MySpace.   Second Life allows for people to connect with each other. People can make connections between the virtual world and space (Rosedale, 2008).
Second Life may be around for about another couple of years or so and then another technology tool that is more enhanced may replace this technology.
The social benefits of Second Life is the ability to communicate and chat with people from a variety of different places, socialize with all different types of people from all over.  Some implications for virtual worlds would be the inability to make connections between people in face to face conversations; instead everyone would rely on communicating through online.

Module 3 Rhymes of History

A technology tool that represents a rhyme in history would be the use of email.  The use of email replaced people writing letters to each other and communicating with each other in person.  Email can be considered as a form of communication that schools use as well to communicate with staff members of the school versus sending out copied letters to people.  Email retrieves from the past the ability to have reliable and quick communication with people, whereas within the past, people had to wait to receive letters through snail mail. The following links provide information on email usage http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-email.htm
A statement that was shared in the video is, “we should be prepared for believing in the impossible” (Kelly, 2007).  This is a true statement, because when it comes to the Internet and the future of technology in general, there are endless possibilities as in what will happen and how it will impact our future and upcoming generations.
